Description

As a Civil Engineering Practice Lead, you’ll develop and manage project teams to provide civil engineering solutions and create land development plans for our commercial, manufacturing, institutional, and energy clients. You'll take part in managing projects, reviewing work products, quality control, client interfacing, budgeting, and mentoring and supervising junior engineers. In managing junior engineers, you will review the design aspects which will include site layouts, grading plans, storm water management facilities, water quality best management practices, and utilities. Interacting with clients, contractors, local government officials, you will impact the whole project - from conceptual and design phases, through the regulatory review process, bidding, and construction, all the way to the grand opening.

Requirements:
• 10+ years of relevant experience
• BS/MS in Civil Engineering
• Professional Registration in Ohio
• Demonstrated client development and management experience
• Experience planning, organizing and overseeing civil engineering projects for
diverse market sectors
• Ability to manage multiple activities, technical professionals and targeted client
base
• Ability to provide senior technical expertise and mentoring to staff and managers
in the civil engineering practice
• Ability to speak and write professionally

Description

This position will involve all aspects of Civil Site Projects – proposals, scheduling, zoning research, design, permitting, etc. for a variety of projects.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Supporting site/civil design and environmental projects, including developing grading, drainage, and storm water management, solid waste management, environmental and civil infrastructure design plans.

Develop engineering related calculations and develop high-quality technical reports, design drawings and specifications.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
5 years of relevant work experience
Interest in obtaining your PE license within the next year
Demonstrate knowledge in Stormwater management and Site Civil modeling using
AutoCAD, Civil3D, and HydroCAD.

A laboratory manager on our team will bring strong detail and analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, solution-oriented knowledge, and a collaborative attitude that is essential for working in our multi-company and multi-departmental organization. They will work closely with our engineers and project managers to coordinate various field services. They are required to have practical knowledge of science and engineering, and a practical knowledge of mathematics or computer science. Some of the types of activities that they will be involved with are:

• Performing a variety of laboratory standardized tests tasks on soils and construction materials using established methods laboratory testing tasks.
• Management of AASHTO laboratory accreditation.
• Experience and familiarity performing soil and rock strength tests, including but not limited to ASTM D2850, D4767, and D2435.
• Reviewing and preparing laboratory test reports per ASTM requirements.
• Preparation of soil boring log reports.
• Perform Laboratory maintenance.
• Perform maintenance, arrange calibration and operation of laboratory testing equipment.
• Overseeing staff performing laboratory testing.
• Develop scopes and fees for laboratory testing.

Description

Your tasks may include:
• Assisting the field geologist to locating and staking the boring locations per the proposal and project requirements.
• Reviewing the field logs for accuracy and consistency when delivered from the field.
• Preparing the soil boring logs based on the field logs and visual classification.
• Coordinating with the project engineer/supervisor for the review and finalizing of the boring logs.
• Coordinating with the project engineer/supervisor for the assigning and performing of laboratory testing.
• Preparing the final laboratory testing reports.
• Being the point person to coordinate deliverables with the project engineer/supervisor (Location diagrams, logs, laboratory testing, photographs, etc.).
• Organizing the laboratory operations to your suitability but within the framework of Somat laboratories, including maintaining cleanliness and organization.

And your role progresses, if you are interested and have capacity, we can get you involved in:

• Preparing scopes and fees for overall geotechnical investigations.
• Performing geotechnical analyses and preparing engineering reports.

This position may require some out-of-town work assignments depending on the project requirements.

Qualifications
• Duties will require lifting, carrying and pulling in excess of 50 lbs. occasionally, 20-50 lbs. frequently and up to 10 lbs. consistently.
• Duties will require frequent bending, walking, sitting and standing.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience
• Willingness to work in a team setting, be punctual, detail orientated, communicative
• Willingness to complete comprehensive measurement, computing, reporting, and documentation along with following standard processes, procedures, and report standards.

Description

Some of the types of activities that you will be involved with are:

• Providing technical mentorship and guidance to staff/field engineers. This includes assisting with report preparation, review of reports and analyses, and overview of fieldwork procedures,
• Collaborate with clients on the completion of project deliverables
• Providing project management for a variety of projects from conception to finish, including preparing proposals
• Coordination of field and laboratory activities for the compilation of geotechnical investigations for various types of structures
• Development of site instrumentation plans
• Engineering and Analysis of shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, bearing capacity settlement, pavements, deep foundations, and retaining walls
• Participation in professional societies and group

This position will require some out-of-town work assignments depending on the project requirements.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis
• 8+ years of relevant work experience involving geotechnical engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain PE within one year
• Understanding of geotechnical aspects of a wide range of civil engineering such as transportation, structural, and water resources
• Demonstrates motivation to modify schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.
• Proven project and client management skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Experience of the geotechnical markets in office locations
• Willingness to become involved in the engineering community by giving presentations and participating in societies and groups
• Experience collaborating and maintaining relationships across offices
